Hello
I’m Lizzie, the founder of Equistart, which I launched in April 2025.
My career in racing began at 17 as a stud hand, progressing to a role as racing secretary at a busy and successful National Hunt yard.
Alongside my work, I studied Bloodstock at the Royal Agricultural University.
After moving to the south of England, I knew I wanted to continue building a career in an industry I genuinely love but I also started to notice a common challenge.
It became clear that many owners, trainers, and business professionals were finding it difficult to balance the administrative workload while still enjoying the sport. Syndicate managers and owners in particular were often struggling to keep on top of everything, which can quickly take away from the excitement of racehorse ownership.
I started Equistart to change that—to make things simpler, more efficient, and to keep everything ticking along behind the scenes so people can focus on what really matters. I’m passionate about encouraging more people into racing and helping them have the best possible experience along the way.
I work remotely but regularly travel to yards and racecourses across the country. At home, I have my own ex-racehorse who I used to ride out whilst he was in training and you might also spot my cheeky terrier, Bertie, making the occasional appearance in the office too!
Why Racehorse Ownership Matters.
Racehorse ownership is one of the most exciting and rewarding ways to be part of the sport.
From the anticipation before a race—waiting for the weights, watching the declarations, and seeing which horses you’re up against—to standing in the paddock as your horse walks around the ring, it’s an experience like no other. It brings a mix of butterflies, excitement, and a real sense of community that’s hard to explain to anyone who hasn’t been part of the racing world.
But behind the scenes, the reality can sometimes be very different. The administrative demands, communication, and day-to-day organisation can quickly become overwhelming, and for many, that can take away from the enjoyment that ownership should bring.
In recent years, ownership numbers have faced challenges, with many people put off by the perceived complexity and time commitment involved. That’s why it’s important more than ever to make the process as straightforward, transparent, and enjoyable as possible.
I’m passionate about helping owners get the very best out of their experience—taking care of the detail, simplifying the process, and ensuring that ownership remains what it should be: exciting, accessible, and something to truly enjoy. Without owners funding the sport, it simply wouldn’t exist, which is why we’re committed to encouraging more people into racing and making the journey as enjoyable and rewarding as it should be.
